Happy Christmas from ORFC   23/12/2020

Who would have thought that as we all sat down to our Christmas dinner this time last year that concepts like pandemic, lockdown, R number, social distancing and viral load would become part of our everyday vocabulary now? There is no doubt that this has been a trying year for our members in ORFC and all in our wider community. Our club was founded on some basic values. Some of these values were inclusivity, community, hard-work, challenge and being person centred. Our values can act like a compass when we meet difficult times. They can help us stay grounded in what’s important.  Great pride can be taken in how this small club responded to the challenges of Covid -19. This was particularly evident in the clubs involvement with the community in delivering groceries and meals to the elderly throughout the year. We also opened our facilities to other clubs when they were in need.    We are so fortunate to have such a vibrant Committee headed by Niall Walsh as Chairperson guiding the club through this turbulent time. The work that has gone on in the background particularly in relation to our new development is truly inspirational. This committee has insured that the club continues to flourish despite the restrictions of a pandemic. An area that deserves special mention is the growth of girl’s rugby in the club. Well done to all involved. Another mention must go to our trustees who are a constant support. I particularly want to highlight the passing of Denis Murphy (Rip). Denis was a founding member, Trustee and absolute gentleman. He will be greatly missed.

My fervent belief is that the year ahead will see some relaxing of restrictions and that we once again get out on the pitch and participate in whatever role we have in this wonderful sport.

To our coaches, managers, players, volunteers  and parents I thank you on behalf of the club for living the values on which the club was founded and look forward to rubbing shoulders with you all on the side-line in the coming year. I would also wish to express the club’s gratitude to the various businesses that supported us throughout the year. We hope to support them in turn when restrictions are lifted. Wishing you and you families a happy and safe Christmas.
